He significantly extended the Seljuk region and solidified his power, overcoming adversaries to south and northwest and his triumph over the Byzantines at the Battle of Manzikert, in 1071, introduced the Turkoman settlement of Anatolia.[2] For his tactical ability and battling abilities, he got the name Alp Arslan, and that signifies “Courageous Lion” in Turkish.
